Clivia Nobilis

Clivia nobilis (Cape Clivia)

R50,00

Clivia nobilis is a rare and elegant South African indigenous plant, treasured for its dark green, strap-like leaves and clusters of pendant, tubular flowers in shades of red to orange with green tips. Unlike the more common Clivia miniata, the nobilis variety has a more refined, drooping flower shape and a slow-growing, clump-forming habit that adds grace to shady garden spaces or indoor containers.

Botanical Name: Clivia nobilis
(Commonly known as Bush Lily or Cape Clivia)

Positioning:
Prefers dappled shade to full shade.
Ideal for underplanting beneath trees, shaded garden beds, or as an indoor feature in bright but indirect light.

Watering:
Low to moderate. Water sparingly and allow the top layer of soil to dry out slightly between waterings.
Avoid over watering, especially in winter.

Growing Tips:
– Plant in well-drained, humus-rich soil.
– Keep undisturbed for several years – clivias dislike being moved.
– Apply mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
– Fertilise lightly in spring and again in midsummer for best blooms.

Did You Know?
Clivia nobilis was the first species of clivia to be scientifically described (in 1828) and is endemic to the Eastern Cape. Though slower to flower, it rewards patience with long-lasting, unique blooms and impressive foliage all year round.
