Clivia Miniata

Clivia miniata (Natal Lily)

R50,00

Clivia miniata is one of South Africa’s most iconic and loved shade-loving perennials. With its broad, glossy green leaves and striking heads of trumpet-shaped orange flowers, this clump-forming evergreen is perfect for creating lush, dramatic displays in shaded gardens or containers. It’s low-maintenance, long-living, and ideal for adding bold colour to those tricky low-light spots.

Botanical Name: Clivia miniata
(Commonly known as Bush Lily, Kaffir Lily, or Natal Lily)

Positioning:
Thrives in dappled shade to full shade. Ideal for beneath trees, on patios, or in shady borders.
The Natal Lily is also a popular choice for indoor growing in bright, indirect light.

Watering:
Low to moderate. Water when the soil surface feels dry.
Reduce watering in winter when the plant is resting.

Growing Tips:
– Plant in well-draining, compost-rich soil.
– Do not disturb the roots often – clivias prefer being pot-bound or left to clump.
– Remove spent flowers and old leaves at the base to keep the plant tidy.
– Feed lightly with a balanced fertiliser in early spring and midsummer.

Did You Know?
Clivia miniata is extremely long-lived – often passed down through generations. They’re also a non-invasive, water-wise alternative to exotic shade plant, and a symbol of resilience in South African gardens.
